Scuba Diving in Dhandhoo Out

Location: North of Hadahaa / Nilandhoo Channel (Dhaandhoo Side)l

Approximately 200 meters wide and 600 meters in length, this channel has an outside reef edge at 30 meters depth and the depth inside channel varies between 15 – 25 meters. There is a drop off at the outer channel edge, a slope at the inner edge and a flat bottom. On the outside of the reef, there are a few overhangs at about 19 meters which offer the opportunity to swim through and explore more marine life.

Coral life: Healthy coral such as boulder, digit and table corals.

Marine life: Commonly sighted are white tip reef sharks, both hawksbill and green turtles, eagle rays, Napoleon wrasse, big-eye trevallies, tuna, barracudas, large schools of fusiliers and grey reef sharks. Nurse sharks and leopard sharks are also commonly seen.

Dive technique: Depending on the current, there are various methods of diving here. When the current is incoming, descend in the blue staying stationery at the channel edge and then slowly drift inside the channel, or descend just outside the reef and drift into channel. When current is outgoing, the best method is to jump inside the channel and drift to the edge continuing along the reef on the outside of the atoll. Highly experienced divers may choose to cross the channel.
