Scuba Diving in Kuredu Kandu

Location: North of Nilandhoo

This is the channel is between the islands of Kuddoo and Villingili, situated on the outer edge of the atoll. Strong currents up to 5 – 6 knots is usually present.

Coral life: Excellent with lots of colorful soft corals, sea fans, black corals, massive boulder corals and beautiful topography.

Marine life: Large schools of jacks, snappers, rainbow runners, skip jack tuna, surgeon fish and fusiliers are commonly seen. Also white tip, black tip, grey reef and leopard sharks can often been seen. Dog-tooth tuna, Napoleon wrasse, eagle rays, moray eels, hawksbill and green turtles are abundant and occasionally Marlins are spotted here.

Dive technique: Depending on the current, there are various methods of diving here. When the current is incoming, descend in the blue staying stationery at the channel edge and slowly drift inside the channel, or descend just outside the reef and drift into channel. When current is outgoing, the best method is to jump inside the channel and drift to the edge continuing along the outside of the reef. Highly experienced divers may choose to cross the channel during light or medium incoming current.

Experience level: Any level though Advanced and Nitrox recommended.
